When I was put on to Paramore, I was told to go online and enjoy. The first song that came up was Last Hope, live in Chicago. It was all I needed to become a fan. As a musician, I was amazed at how low she went on the final note of the song. I can't get that low and keep it steady without a modicum of difficulty, and I have testicles. 😂

I can relate to a lot of what you talked about and just know you're not alone brotha. Finding that independence and stability in a career is so important to mental health in your mid 20s. In regards to Buck's guitar playing: he spoke about it in a interview with Berklee; he talked about how he likes to contrast Adrianne - playing soft when she's going at it and playing loud, crazy parts when she is soft. He also said something about trying to tell a story with his tone. For example he talked about 'Shark Smile' and that when he heard the song he envisioned a broken FM radio playing faintly in the wreckage of the car, and he tried to emulate the feeling and sound of that with his washed out, distorted guitar - very interesting!

Nah man, Moonlight is good. Jay-Z had an unfinished point about autotune back in the BP3 era in the song DOA. (it was a horrible song) In Moonlight, top of commenting on the state of the hiphop game at the time, he actually develops his point about autotune from back then, not with lyrics, but with his singing delivery. It's a bit jarring but I find myself appreciating it more than in DOA.

The fact that these copyright cases even make it to court is outrageous. And I’m so glad Ed Sheeran won. It re-established a precedent that can now be used as a reference when fighting these ridiculous copyright claims. As you’re illustrating in this video, the fact is that western music theory is a finite system, with only 7 notes in a scale and only a certain amount of chords that correspond to said melody. Rhythmic possibilities are also quite finite. So unless you want to string together a bunch of random and unrelated notes and chords, which would sound like crap and no one would like, the chances of a songwriter writing a song that has similarities to an existing song is extremely high. Music, just like every other art form or creative work is derivative. Anything a human creates is merely a mutated combination of things they’ve seen/observed/heard. But that’s perfectly okay because it’s impossible to create things any other way! This is often a very subconscious process, but it doesn’t have to be. Art that was consciously inspired by another existing work of art is also perfectly valid. Basically, doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Whether they’re consciously aware of it or not, good songwriters take bits and pieces of things they like from existing songs and merely put it in a new combination. And that is where room for infinite creativity lies-the endless permutations.

Bro it’s not that her song writing isn’t good it’s the fact that she’s marketed and pushes herself as a indie artist who did it all by herself when she indeed was getting help from her dad and he definitely pulled some strings to get her where she is. Her music is good and I fuck with it, but when you’re not honest with your audience and transparent about how you got your start it tends to give this false narrative or delusion that other indie artist can do it too when it honestly isn’t that easy.
